    Lazy Tuesday Mornings….

Just completed the second half of Bend It Like Beckham. Nice. Not as thought provoking as the movie wants to be, but goes beyond mere east meets west stuff…. Have been talking awfull lot about movies lately haven’t I. Hmm… its because three days ago it suddenly dawned on me that I may not got prolonged periods of abandon and glee in the near future, atleast for two years. So might as well make merry while I can.

Have a niggling toothache, I guess its a wisdom tooth jostling for space with a secondary molar who has decay problems of his own. Ironic that I got my wisdom teeth after getting an MBA admit. I thought it came when you became wise. My dad says it was waiting for some proof, and now it has…

Hmm….Demand forecasting or is it going to be Accruals…. but please dont let me overwhelm you with my Pre-prep. Just like those cricket bowlers who do all sorts of beastly things like spitting on the ball, and then giving it a good go on their groins, I dont see my prep really taking any wickets…

    More as things happen today….

    A little more ice perhaps…

Yes sirree…. Just back from X Men 2. Umm… yes decent movie, the Nightcrawler sequence in the beginning was pretty cool. The special effects were nice. The movie has a lot of things going for it, and a lot of things against it too. But then this is not Gone With The Wind Part two, and you do not expect an Oscar winning performance…. Watch it for a purely escapist experience. If you want anything truly ground breaking keep reading my blog…err.. I mean watch the LOTR trilogy or the Matrix movies. Can’t wait to watch Reloaded, though somebody told me it should be Matrix Overloaded. But who cares, if the Star Wars junkies can watch Parts One and Two and actually think its serious Sci-Fi stuff, whos blaming me for being a Matrix nut….

Went to a bookstore to check out some MBA type books, at those prices you can only afford them AFTER your MBA… So finally settled for a discount cheap edition of a book on Saatchi and Saatchi. (point to note: Discount and Cheap). Thats when a jarring image caught my eye. There was a poster of Harry Potter right next to a flier for a Saddam Hussein book. And they were each looking at each other.

Saddam:”Young boy, I dare you to find me…..”

    Potter:”Recardim boom bast leviosa…..”

    Saddam:”Egads, moustache is gone….”

Sahhaf:”These western dogs do not know the power of the Iraqi body hair…”

    Good night….

    A new friend…

My blog as been listed on the MBALeague blog. The blog has a lot of info about present and future b-school students. Do check it out. (I told you all, I am going up in life…)

I completed “Snapshots from Hell” a few days ago. If the purpose of the book was to turn you away from b school, well it has not worked on me. I can’t wait for B-school to start. For people who are not familiar with the Indian B school scene, around 100,000 people write the examination to make it to one of the top B schools. And most people regard IIM Ahmedabad the best. But honestly most of us really dont do much soul searching when we chose which B school to go to. There are a few good ones, some mediocre ones and lots of bad ones. So there isn’t that much of a choice. For most people the IIMs do the soul searching for them.

The initial excitement has died down a bit now, especially on the email group. Though there are a lot of fachcha parties happening. “Fachca” is slang for first year students. I guess it is derived from Fresh or First and “Bachcha” which means child in Hindi. Every year once the CAT examination are through and he final admission lists are out, the fachcha party is a sort of tradition.

Seniors wherever thay maybe doing their summers tend to organize parties where the first years get to interact with a few second years and more senior alumni. Extremely well managed affairs, and helps to dispell a few myths… and create a few.

Many of us fachchas are really looking forward to seeing how much we can suffer sleep deprivation. Many of us hope that all the “hard work and no sleep talk” we get from our seniors and books and blogs is just a global conspiracy to pull a fast one on us before we join.

I think I’ll go and watch XMen 2 today.
